Clinical History:
58 yr old man with left knee pain.
Diagnosis:
Moderate-sized ASD (ostium secundum defect) and a tiny septal VSD.
MR Technique:
MR technique: 3T (Siemens Verio) with extremity coil. Image 1: Axial GRE (TR/TE 833/23 ms, slice thickness 3 mm, scan time 3 min 43 sec); Image 2: Proton density turbo spin echo coronal (TR/TE 2270/36 ms, slice thickness 3 mm, scan time 4 min 14 sec); Image 3: T2 turbo spin echo sagittal (TR/TE 4880/70, slice thickness 3 mm, scan time 1 min 43 sec); Image 4: STIR coronal ( TR/TE 5902/34 ms, slice thickness 3 mm, scan time 1 min 58 sec).
Imaging Findings:
Images show a truncated body of the medial meniscus with a displaced fragment in the intercondylar notch of the knee diagnostic of a bucket handle tear. These findings are best seen on the coronal images. The axial GRE and sagittal T2 images show the displaced fragment in the intercondylar notch.
